Spent too much over the holidays? Get your financial life back on track with Frugal Living for the 21st Century. The book is filled with ideas, from large expenses such as housing and utilities, down to the finest details. If it costs money, the author researched alternatives to spending. Written in a comfortable, conversational style, this book never makes you feel guilty. Better, it shows how to make positive and realistic changes to improve your money life.
If you are saving for retirement, seeking to educate your children with fewer student loans, hoping to pay off your mortgage or get out of debt, this book can help you free up money to meet your goals. If your income is low, there’s not a penny to waste. Find out how to save on the boring, necessary stuff so you can afford to have some fun.
Learn how the author turned 148 square feet of extra space in her home into $5,000 a year in income. Learn the truth about secret shopping and work at home jobs. Can you really sell your long hair for a lot of money? Which paid-to-click programs are legitimate? And what in the world is a Mechanical Turk?
Not everything that we’ve always “known” about how to save money is really true. The author has tried and tested any ideas she reasonably could, and sometimes the results are surprising. Which ideas about conserving electricity and water really work? Is a warehouse club membership always a good idea? Should you buy your next pair of glasses online? Learn how the author reduced her grocery spending by 30%, her grooming expenses by over 80%, and her cleaning and laundry costs to a fraction of what they used to be.
The book makes full use of the money saving and money earning tools available on the internet, as well as the traditional resources. It is eminently readable, very well written, and often entertaining as well.

Frugal Living For the 21st Century by Marie Brack is a reference book and how-to book, written in a style that makes you feel like you are sitting with a friend discussing the smartest and least expensive ways to live in today's world. Marie covers a wide range of pertinent subjects like Banking, Housing, and Home Medicine to name a few. The book contains seventeen chapters of valuable tips, web addresses, resources and an extensive bibliography. The author has gone through most of the experiences and advice she covers in the book. A perfect example of her subtle humor and sage advice is reflected in the statement: "I have no problem resisting the urge to pay for radio, Siriusly." When Marie delves into areas that she has not tested herself, she admits that, but still offers ideas and resources to the reader. By sharing her personal story wherever pertinent, this otherwise dry subject, reads like a memoir at times.
I give this book five stars because of the wealth of information it contains, and because of the comfortable style in which it is written. I am not one to pick up a self-help book and read it from cover to cover, but I did with Brack's Frugal Living. I've added this book to my reference collection, and because it is on Kindle, I will be able to easily refer back to areas I've highlighted.

Frugal Living for the 21st Century Adventures in Using Your Money Wisely edition by Marie Brack Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews
very good advise for trying to get by on as little as possible. I am amazed at how much money I am wasting on nonessentials. Interesting to know what common (and cheap) products can replace the TV hyped up advertised versions. Great read for anyone wanting to save money.
I didn't know what to expect when I bought this book, but I am thrilled! Marie Brack has researched everything and tried a lot of the advice she gives. It is a down-to-earth look at ways to cut costs in almost every instance. I love how she categorizes areas of cost-cutting and spending. Great reference for future use, also. I hope she will continue to update this book as she learns more. I have already implemented several ideas for bringing in cash as I'm at a stage where I want to downsize.
Unfortunately, most books on frugality are written for young families. While there is certainly a need in that area, the bottom line is that many middle aged boomers and early retirees are finding out that they are living on much less than they had hoped. This book addresses that empty area. I highly recommend it!
I think it is a good book but it was a waste of money for .e because it offers no new information to me at all...I have to say though she should provide more specific links as opposed to about.com and other generalized forums.
I knew most of the tips and am not desparate enough to be so careful about utilities, food purchases, etc. It was interesting to know that dishes can be washed with salt and water. Also, the web sites in the back of the book might be worthwhile to explore. I think this book is of most value to those with little experience in cutting corners.
I downloaded this on my because I usually only read books on there. I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't this. The author has basically done all of our research for us. Besides the straightfoward approach to saving money, the author's wit makes it an enjoyable read. But it is more than that. It is a reference book and I will now need to get the paperback version so I can have all those valuable links handy. The author needs to start a column, Dear Marie, so people could write in and ask advice, kind of like the column, Dear Heloise that used to be in the newspaper.
Guides for living books usually have a couple of good ideas in between old worn axioms. This book is the exception. The author first provides a way to earn money on the internet from silent shopper sites to typing, editing, and other stay-at-home occupations. The author is realistic about the limitation of this income because these ideas come from her actual life experience. She switches from how to bring in some income to how you can minimize your expenses. It is the best book of its kind that I have seen. Her bibliography and website index is worth keeping the book available . I highly recommend this book.
